How Much Does It Cost to Fax 5, 10, or 20 Pages Online?

Count the complete packet, check the destination, and review the final price. A one-time fax may fit pay-as-you-go pricing better than a monthly plan.

Online fax prices are easier to compare when you know how many pages you are sending and where they are going. A service might charge for one transmission, sell page credits, or include a monthly allowance. Those prices describe different purchases.

For a fax to a US number, LowFax.com currently charges $1.99 for the first 10 pages, then $0.25 for each additional page.

Where is fax still used?

International fax demand is easier to understand when you look at actual surveys. In its June 2024 report, Germany’s digital industry association Bitkom found that 77 percent of surveyed German companies used fax at least occasionally, while 25 percent used it often or very often. The representative telephone survey covered 604 companies with at least 20 employees in early 2024.

“Fax is still used in three quarters (77 percent) of German companies.” — Bitkom, translated from German.

That is a measure of company adoption, not a count of outgoing transmissions. It does not establish Germany’s position in a global fax-volume ranking. For someone sending an international document, the useful takeaway is simpler: a fax request from an overseas office can reflect an established local workflow. Confirm the destination country, number format, and price before sending; a domestic page-price example should not be assumed to apply internationally.

What different page counts cost

Total billable pages in one US faxCalculationCost
5Within the first 10 pages$1.99
10Within the first 10 pages$1.99
15$1.99 + 5 × $0.25$3.24
20$1.99 + 10 × $0.25$4.49

These examples apply to one transmission to a US destination. International rates differ. Check the total displayed for your destination and uploaded document before paying.

Count the whole document

Open the file and look at its page count before you upload. Include attachments that belong in the same packet. Remove accidental blank pages, but keep every page the recipient requires.

LowFax.com always includes a cover page, and that page adds to the actual page count. The table above includes the cover page in each total. For example, nine document pages plus the cover page make a 10-page fax; ten document pages plus the cover page make an 11-page fax.

Compare the total, not just a per-page rate

For occasional outgoing faxes, calculate the cost of the actual transmissions. At the base US rate, three separate faxes of up to 10 pages each total $5.97. That is a different calculation from sending one 30-page document.

Questions to check before paying

Use the provider's current checkout and policies to answer these questions. A headline price is only the starting point.

A simple way to calculate a longer fax

For a US fax above the included allowance, subtract 10 from the total billable page count. Multiply that remainder by $0.25, then add $1.99. For example, a 12-page transmission has two additional pages, so the calculation is $1.99 plus $0.50, or $2.49.

For a transmission at or below the allowance, the base rate applies. Sending fewer pages does not divide that base fee into smaller charges. A five-page fax and a ten-page fax therefore have the same advertised base cost under this pricing model.

Think of the price as a transmission charge with an included page allowance. That distinction helps explain why the average cost per page changes with the size of the document. It also prevents confusion when comparing a service that charges every page individually with one that bundles the first several pages.

Why the number of transmissions matters

Imagine you have three five-page documents. If they all belong to the same recipient and the recipient wants one packet, combining them creates a 15-page document packet. With LowFax.com’s included cover page, that creates a 16-page US fax. At the US rate in this example, the total is $3.49.

If the documents go to three different recipients, they require separate transmissions. Three five-page US transmissions would total $5.97 at the base rate. The difference comes from the number of sends, even though the underlying documents contain the same number of pages.

Do not combine unrelated documents just to reduce a fee. Each recipient should receive only the material intended for them. The useful question is whether several attachments are parts of the same submission to the same office. If they are, preparing a single organized PDF can make both the sending process and the receiving office's work easier.

Three common document situations

A short signed form is the simplest case. Open the completed file, confirm that the signature is visible, and count the pages. If the receiving office requires an instruction page or identification attachment, include it before deciding which allowance fits.

A longer document packet needs a little more preparation. A lease or business agreement may include schedules and exhibits. Those pages still count when they are part of the uploaded document. The number printed on the last page may not reflect the entire packet if attachments restart their numbering.

Scanned paperwork can produce unexpected pages. A scanner may capture blank backs, or a PDF export may insert an extra page after a table. Review thumbnails and then inspect the full pages before removing anything. A page that appears mostly blank may contain a signature, checkbox, or required certification near the bottom.

Billable pages and file size are different

A file measured in megabytes is not the same thing as a document measured in pages. A short photo-heavy PDF can be larger than a much longer text-only file. Do not estimate the charge from the size shown beside the filename.

File size can still affect whether an upload is accepted. If a service rejects a large file, check its upload rules. Reducing a file's size should preserve the information the recipient needs. Compressing faint scans until they become unreadable can create a more expensive problem than the original upload difficulty.

If you convert a Word document to PDF, reopen the exported version and count its pages. Changes in fonts, margins, or paper size can move text onto another page. The finished upload is the document that matters for the transaction.

Comparing one-time sending with a monthly plan

Here is an illustrative calculation rather than a quote from a particular competitor. Suppose a monthly plan costs $12 and includes enough pages for your expected sends. Five separate US transmissions at LowFax.com’s base rate would total $9.95. Six would total $11.94. Seven would total $13.93. In that narrow example, the subscription's headline price becomes lower around the seventh send.

That comparison changes if any transmission exceeds the base allowance, if the plan has additional fees, or if you need to receive replies by fax. It also changes if you fax once this month and then nothing for several months. Compare the full period during which you would keep the subscription, rather than only its first bill.

How international destinations change the calculation

Use the destination country, not your own location, when checking a sending rate. Someone sitting in the United States may be faxing a Canadian office; someone abroad may be sending to a US number.

The US examples in this article do not apply automatically to other destinations. Country-specific rates can have different included page allowances and different additional-page charges. Select the destination in the sending form and check the displayed price for the actual upload.

Confirm the number with the recipient before paying. A country code or area code error can send your paperwork to the wrong place or prevent delivery. If the office supplied a number in a particular format, follow the sending form's instructions for entering it rather than adding dialing prefixes by guesswork.

Costs to consider beyond the headline fee

Failed transmissions deserve a separate policy check. Providers can differ in when they charge, how they retry a busy destination, and when refunds are available. Do not assume that one provider's policy applies to another merely because both use the phrase pay-as-you-go.

Your preparation time matters too. A readable, correctly ordered document reduces avoidable back-and-forth. Taking two minutes to confirm the recipient and inspect the upload can be more useful than saving a small amount by choosing a service that does not fit the packet.

People Also Asked

Does every page cost extra? Under an allowance-based price, pages within the included bundle do not add an additional-page charge. Extra pages are charged after that allowance. Review the provider's specific page-count rules.

Does a double-sided sheet count as one page? When both sides are scanned as separate document pages, the uploaded file contains two pages. Count the pages in the finished digital file, not the number of physical sheets on your desk.

Can I omit pages to keep the price lower? Remove genuine duplicates or accidental blank scans when appropriate. Keep anything the recipient requires. An incomplete packet may need a second transmission and delay the submission.

Can I get an exact price before sending? Review the amount shown after entering the destination and uploading the document. If the page count or country looks wrong, correct it before completing payment.

Is a delivery receipt the same as approval? It records transmission to the fax system. The receiving organization may still need to review the paperwork, match it to a case, or request corrections.

How LowFax.com counts and prices your fax

LowFax.com is a browser-based sending service. Your price is based on the actual number of pages in the fax, including the cover page that LowFax.com always includes. File size in bytes or megabytes does not determine the page count or price. A five-page document plus the cover page is a six-page fax, even if the PDF file is unusually small or large.

Each destination country has its own pricing. Any US dollar examples in this article apply only to US destinations; they should not be used to estimate the cost of sending to another country. Select the correct destination country in LowFax.com and check the price shown for your complete fax before paying.
